Who I work with

Parents of children with autism and developmental disabilities

My personal experience as the parent of two children with autism prepared me to assist parents facing the unimaginable challenges of a lifetime of care for developmentally disabled children.

Why I work with these families

Because I have lived the thing you are describing. Not a version of it, and not a case study of it.

That changes the first session more than anything else on this website. You will not spend it explaining what an IEP is, what a regression looks like, what it costs to hold a job and a waiting list at the same time, or why the well-meaning advice from people without a disabled child lands the way it does.

What the work is

As a clinician and the parent of two children with autism, I understand what families and parents face. I can tailor individual and couples counseling to help you find peace and maintain stability while facing the daily challenges of raising an impaired child.

That means the work is shaped around your household rather than around a protocol. Sometimes it is you on your own. Sometimes it is you and your partner, because the strain is landing on the marriage and you are both adapting to the same thing at different speeds.

What I am not

I am not an advocate, and I am not a referral service. Every community is different, and services vary widely, so I will not pretend to know what is available where you live or how to get you to the front of a waiting list. I also won’t waste your time with the obvious, “Have you tried ABA? An OT?” I know you’ve tried everything you can afford and many things you couldn’t.

I also do not provide ABA, speech therapy, occupational therapy, school advocacy, or evaluation or treatment of your child. I treat the parents and the family. That is the whole of it, and it is enough.
