Telehealth therapy in Colorado
I live in Fort Collins and I am licensed here, so this is the state I know from the inside: the winters, the drive over the pass, and how much of Colorado is a long way from the nearest clinician.
The same state, which changes a few things
I hold LCSW-1744 in Colorado. Being in the same state as you is not a clinical advantage on its own, but it removes some friction that is worth naming.
We are on the same clock. There is no arithmetic before booking, no appointment that turns out to be an hour earlier than you thought, and no confusion twice a year when the clocks move.
The rule that governs telehealth still applies here: a therapist has to be licensed in the state where you are physically located during the session. In practice that means Colorado residents who travel to California are still covered, since I hold both licences, and anywhere else generally is not. Worth planning around if you are away often.
Most of Colorado is not the Front Range
Denver, Boulder and Fort Collins have a lot of therapists. The Western Slope, the San Luis Valley and the eastern plains do not, and the drive to the nearest one can be an hour each way in good weather and not worth attempting in February.
A therapist you cannot reach in a snowstorm is not much use in January.
That is the practical case for telehealth in this state rather than the theoretical one. It also means a rural client is not choosing between the only clinician within fifty miles and nobody at all.

Most of it is ordinary, good therapy: depression, anxiety, trauma and PTSD, stress and burnout, transitions and grief. Some of it is less ordinary, and those are the reasons people look past the therapist nearest to them.
