Cub Valley Counseling

Who I work with

Executives and senior professionals

Therapy that assumes your competence and professional persona rather than treating it as a symptom.

Two groups of people come here

Senior leaders under public pressure

People navigating the particular challenges of high-stress, highly public senior leadership: scrutiny, isolation, decisions that affect a great many people, and the absence of anyone safe to think out loud with.

Mid-career professionals

People who want to improve their emotional regulation and functioning in order to advance in their chosen career path. Often, what stands in the way is not capability but how they respond under pressure.

Where this comes from

My professional experience mentoring executives, clinical leaders, physicians, and providers prepares me to work with high-functioning individuals.

High-functioning is not the same as untroubled.

People in these roles often arrive having already read everything, tried the obvious things, and concluded they ought to be able to manage it alone. The work tends to move faster and to be more direct, because it can be.

Privacy, stated accurately

This is a cash practice. I am not enrolled with any insurance plans for your care. I submit nothing to anyone on your behalf, so no claim, diagnosis, or treatment record reaches a health plan because of anything I do. Sessions are by telehealth, so there is no waiting room and nobody to run into.

If you do want to use out-of-network benefits, I provide superbills through Mentaya, which checks your coverage and files the claim for you. The process is easy. The decision is not: a superbill carries a diagnosis, and filing a claim creates a record of it with your insurer. Whether the reimbursement is worth that record is your call, and it is worth making deliberately. See fees.

This is therapy, not coaching

I do not offer executive coaching. What happens here is clinical treatment provided by a licensed clinical social worker, with the confidentiality, the clinical record, and the professional obligations that come with it. If what you want is performance coaching, you want a coach, and I am glad to say so early rather than blur the line.
